#3 The Message to the Church

Series on the End Times, The Revelation & Christ’s Return

OK, Christ is coming back with rewards and judgment, but does that pertain to my family, my church, and me? Jesus says in chapters two and three of Revelation that He is not pleased with what church members are doing. Here is what he says:

1. “You have left your first love; repent, and do your first works” vs. 2:4-5.

2. “Fear nothing you will suffer; be faithful unto death” vs. 2: 10.

3. “You hold the doctrine of Balaam”, you cause others to stumble, “eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication”, and “hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes” vs. 2: 14-15.

4. ‘You allow the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed unto idols” vs. 2:20.

5. “If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee” vs. 3:3.

6. “I will make those the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews and are not but do lie” vs. 3:9.

7. “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot” vs. 3:15.

None of the churches are in ‘perfect standing’ with Christ. He either gives warnings to continue or issues judgments that are quite severe. None of the Christians are free from some kind of rebuke or admonition. All of us I am sure can identify with one or more of the seven churches Christ mentions. We are in trouble!

Here are Christ’s warnings: repent—change your ways; repent—do it quickly; and repent—or I will reject you and rule over you with a rod of iron that will crush you. There is more, here are His judgments: I will remove your candlestick; I will fight against you; I will cast you into great tribulation; I will kill your children; I will come to you as a thief—you will not know the hour of my coming & I will blot your name out of the Book of Life; if you do not have patience, I will not keep you from the hour of temptation; and lastly, if you do not get rid of your shame, your nakedness, your blindness, and your lack of riches, you will not get to sit with Christ in heaven.

Now is the time for faith that comes with works—we must keep the commandments of Christ and perform the testimony of Christ. There is little time for mercy in Revelation but instead a time of judgment with dire consequences.

The problem, Jesus says for our time as stated in Revelation, is that we have one foot in the world and one foot in heaven. We want to be part of both kingdoms—the earthly and the heavenly. Jesus says ‘you are either all in or all out’. He makes it clear that we have to choose, we have to perform, we have to be willing to reject everything the world stands for or He will reject us. There is no middle ground!
