#7 Watching, Praying & Seeing the Signs
Series on the End Times, The Revelation & Christ’s Return
The very first command God makes in Revelation is for the church to repent. We are going to get ourselves into situations (as Israel did) that require continual, sincere repentance. We are imperfect and sin comes easy to us, just as it did to Paul. When it comes to getting ready for Christ’s return I want repentance; you can have the limited and imperfect knowledge that so many scholars think will save them in the last days. Nevertheless, there are three behaviors we all must have in order to be saved and to endure to the end.
To watch: means to be in a constant state of awareness; to look and wait expectantly or in anticipation; to be on the lookout or alert—to be a watchman. We are in a battle between good and evil and God calls us to this battle, “The Kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force.” Once we no longer battle, we no longer fight against evil (wanting the easy life)—we are no good to God! We must have the grace, peace, and joy of the Lord multiplied in our lives daily. This is why all New Testament writes used this greeting at the beginning of every book written to individuals or groups. We must grow and not become satisfied with what God gave us yesterday—there is always more and you will need these qualities to battle—to watch.
To pray: to make a fervent request, to plead or to beseech: the act of confession, praise or thanksgiving in addressing God. God says to pray without stopping, to praise God while doing all things, and to be thankful in every situation you find yourself in. If only we would do this, God says if you would, the will of God will always be yours—what a promise. No wonder God says to pray in the last days—this way you will not miss His will for you in troubling times. Let’s pray, let’s bless God, let’s expect His perfect will to be done in everything that involves our walk with Him.
· Pray that our flight be not in winter
· Pray for Christ to come back
· Pray we will find repentance
· Pray we will not be deceived by Satan
· Pray for patience and to be an overcomer
· Pray for anointing and to let our lights shine…Pray!
The signs: something that suggests the presence or existence of a fact, or quality not immediately evident—a display in a public place to advertise or to convey information or a direction. God says in Revelation that there will be signs in the earth and in heaven. This is just the beginning of the end but these will offer us clues on what to do. I believe many signs have already been given and that they began 2000 years ago. Based on the Epistles of John, “As you have heard the Antichrist will come and now there are many Antichrist’s, this is how we know it is the last days,” I John 2:18, and Rev. 1:9, “I John who also am your brother and companion in tribulation and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ”. John simply makes the point that The Revelation had already started for him—tribulation had begun, Antichrist was showing himself, and he now is walking in patience of Jesus Christ. We must have patience; patience for God to do all He wants to do in His timeframe and for His purposes. The last days have begun…’Even so, come, Lord Jesus!’
