Where Are You Church?
Becoming salt: Matthew 5:13-16
I am sure you have heard about the tragedy in San Bernardino, CA. A special needs teacher and an 8-year-old boy were shot and killed in a murder-suicide at a Southern California elementary school on Monday.
53-year-old Cedric Anderson walked into North Park Elementary School and opened fire on his wife, Karen Elaine Smith before taking his own life. He also killed 8-year-old Jonathan Martinez, who died after being taken to a local hospital. What a tragic series of events and such senseless killings!
Church where are you? There will be a funeral for Jonathan Martinez shortly. I hope that all those who profess Jesus Christ will pray for the boy’s family and show support to the Martinez family. But I want you to do more!
I want a miracle! Yes, I want Christ to raise Jonathan from this tragedy and the Lord to bring him back to his family. We need miracles! We need to ask God for “raising from the dead” as Jesus promised and God speaks about in His Word.
We need Christians to believe, pray, obey God’s command and be willing to see God’s promise of life in this lifetime for Jonathan. It is time not to ask why or how God will give Jonathan back to his family but merely for the Church to try.
God’s church in San Bernardino needs to take God at His word. I know God’s grace is sufficient no matter what God decides to do, but we need to begin to ask God for the impossible. We need to ask God to fulfill His promises and destroying the works of the Devil.
Are you willing to ask God for more? Are you willing to come face to face with the works of the Devil and say, “Not today, not on my watch!”? Are you willing to bring the truth of Christ to a hurting and broken family? Yes, what would Jesus do? What would He want you to do?
