Times of Prayer

Knowing what and how to pray is critical. Jesus taught His disciples the importance of prayer (Mathew 6:9-15). Promise Keepers has this to say about prayer, “Prayer is a spiritual discipline that needs cultivation. Prayer takes effort and constant fine-tuning. We learn to pray. At one point, Paul commended Epaphras on his fervent prayer life, calling him a struggler in prayer: ‘Epaphras greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers’ (Colossians 4:12). Prayer is indeed a struggle.”

Nevertheless, I pray and we ought to pray so much more, knowing that Christ is coming back soon—may be in our lifetime. Here are four very short prayers that every family should pray each day. (Pray like you are talking to a friend.)

One, the apostle Paul started each epistle with these words “Grace and Peace be multiplied to you from God and Jesus Christ.” We need to pray that the grace and peace of God be with us each day and be increased without limits.

Two, pray Luke 2:40 over our children and grandchildren: “And the child grew (pray for physical & mentally health), became strong in Spirit (pray that the child’s purpose and their self-esteem which God has determined before this birth come to fulfillment), be filled with wisdom (pray that they know the difference between right and wrong; good and bad—to have moral prosperity), and to have the grace of God upon them (pray that they will have the means to serve God and respond to God when He calls upon them).”

Three, Husbands and wives need to pray this for each other and themselves: “Pray that the Husband love his wife as he loves himself” and the wife “Love and honor their husband as Sarah did to Abraham.” We need to respect and help each other be the best we can be, as well as, show gentleness along with honor and thankfulness for who they are. (Various verses from the Epistles)

Four, pray Psalm 23: 3a: “The Lord restores my soul.” Pray with understanding that we will only prosper in the Lord if our soul prospers. We will fail in our service to God if our spirit and soul are not given spiritual food everyday from our Father. It is God alone who can do this and we must ask for this to take place.
