What’s Coming in 2018, Really?
It’s that time of year again where every prophet is making their predictions. I suppose many of them do not want to be left behind, that is, they want to be recognized. It is easy to predict, in fact, we all make our own predictions all the time. We state what will happen if someone does this or that. We love to be right. I wonder what God thinks about all of this.
Jesus said, “Only say yes or no. You cannot change anything nor can you number the hairs on your head by talking/predicting.” If I would offer some advice to my Christian friends and leaders this is what I would state, “Follow the example of Christ.”
One, the Bible says Christ did not try or desire to be recognized, to be important. He was not trying to ‘brand himself’. The world tells us we must ‘find a brand’, a hook, in order for people to follow or listen to us. Christ did just the opposite, “He made himself of no reputation.”
Two, Christ did not call himself good. He said, “No one is good but God.” If only we could get beyond worrying if we are good or not (as if we could ever be good). My righteousness is not mine, but it belongs to Christ. I rather be on the side of Christ and not consider myself good. If Christ did not say He was good, where does that leave us?
Three, Jesus stated at the end of His ministry, “Wisdom is justified of her children.” When we reject the activity of God and how God is reaching out to us through the Holy Spirit then there is a price to pay. When we reject the moving of the Holy Spirit and the manifestation of the works of the Holy Spirit judgment is not far behind. Wisdom is responding positively to what God is doing, not just knowing this or that about God!
So based on Christ’s life, this is what you should be doing in 2018. He humble—quit trying to make yourself a somebody. Do not consider yourself important or worthy of a good reputation—God should be honored only and wait for God to honor you. Be sensitive and obedient to the Holy Spirit. You want to be wise then get connect and stay connected to the activity of the Spirit.
2018 will be the year God wants it to be in your life if you walk the life of Christ. He is my example—What would Jesus want me to do? Let’s be perfect as God is perfect—God is everything and I am nothing—what a wonderful place to be!
