Have You Heard?

Have You Heard?

There is a lot going on with God. He seems busy; busier than usual. Whenever God talks with me I try to verify what He is saying. I use Scriptures, past experiences & history, but more often I listen to what God is saying to others. I like witnesses! If God is saying ‘such and such’ to me, is He saying the same thing to someone else?

God was talking to me about fasting last month. I know this is the time of the year people of God fast—they fast for the New Year. Many churches ask their members to fast during January and February. It is good to fast for many different reasons, but the best reason is when God asks us to fast. God is planning something and fasting gets us ready.

This happened to Christ—forty days in the wilderness fasting and being tempted by the Devil—before He started His ministry. I wonder what is coming? I can only guess—the moving of the Holy Spirit, which God has promised to bring to America. I’m excited!

If you check out the World Wide Web, many people and groups are fasting. People are joining together to fast and pray. It is exciting to watch how God is bringing people of all faiths together to fast this year. I am so happy to be a Christian and part of the Body of Christ.

Anyhow, here are some suggestions for fasting. (By the way, 2018 is the 70th birthday of present-day Israel; we need to fast for Israel if for no other reason.)

"Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?"
(Isaiah 58:6)

1. Pray a lot—fasting and prayer are linked throughout the Bible.

2. Bible—reading the Word of God during meal times. It will give you strength when you fast—that hunger feeling will go away.

3. Be alone—whenever you are not eating (specific times) get off by yourself. Give the time you usually spend on eating to spending that time privately with the Lord.

4. Praise—do not forget to sing a lot when you fast. Strength in the Lord comes through joy & singing makes us joyful!

5. Humility—Do not publicize your fasting process. Be humble yet truthful; let God help you. Fasting is not about you, but about others and God’s will for them.
