Freedom is Free!

How Free Are You?

How do you know when Satan no longer has a hold on your life? Jesus came to bring freedom—to set things right! When He first spoke about His ministry, He quoted Isaiah 61:1-2 in the Gospel of Luke 4: 18-19 (AKJV):

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

You and I cannot serve Jesus Christ without the freedom that God offers. We can have God’s freedom through all that He offers, through His salvation, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, righteousness, His wisdom and the list goes on. But how can I know if I indeed have freedom or if I am still under the power and control of Satan? Take the first step; take this test.

1. Do you feel that you can take of things yourself? (That you do not need God and His assistance in running your life?)

2. Are you reminded daily of the sins, poor decisions, or mistakes in your life?

3. Are you unable to find forgiveness and/or are you still trying to please God?

4. Do you believe that God cares about what you care about?

5. Is your heart still broken and have hurt feelings over things that happened long ago?

6. Is it hard for you to be positive and receive compliments from family and friends?

7. Are there physical, emotional, psychological aspects in your body or personality that have never been healed? (You accepted God into your life, but you have not changed.)

8. Are there are events or situations that happened in your life that you do not want to think about? (Your past is a stumbling block to your future.)

9. You just cannot accept the promises of God regarding… (You do not see how Jesus is or will ever help you become a better person.)

10. You do not want to accept responsibility for your actions, attitudes, or words.

If you said “yes” to one or more of these statements, Satan does have a hold on your life. Jesus said, “Satan has no part in His life and has no hold over His life.” It is in Christ alone that you and I can find freedom. Christ offers it freely to you in the working of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 2:12) in your life. It is free to us all in the asking—this is what Jesus came to do!
