Character & Soul

The Character of the Month Series

One’s soul, a topic that Christians talk so little about, yet it is central to the coming of Jesus Christ. The final book of the Bible, The Revelation, speaks to keeping one’s soul. Jesus states in the Gospel of Luke, 21:19 “In your patience possess ye your souls.”

Jesus warns us to be afraid of the One who can destroy both the body and the soul, Matthew 10:28. Hebrews 6:19 speaks to Jesus being the anchor of the soul. Jesus said to ‘love God with all our heart, strength, soul, and mind’; we must take careful consideration on doing things that promote the well being of our soul.

The song Alive Forever Amen by Travis Cottrell is one of my favorites that penetrates deep into my soul. I wish there were more songs the Church sings that moves one’s soul. The Bible warns of one’s soul not having enough Biblical knowledge, praise, truth or passion. It is these spiritual qualities within one’s soul that we should depend on when it comes to salvation and steadfastness in order to survive when we are tempted and challenged.

I remember the first time my soul leaped within me. My soul jumped within my chest hitting the inside of my ribcage. I did not know what was happening until God reminded me of the Scripture in Psalms where David speaks of his soul leaping inside him.

When I am looking for character either in others or myself I want to know how ‘one’s soul’ is doing. Are we doing enough to strengthen one’s soul? Are we considerate and kind to our souls? Do we take our soul for granted or are we cultivating aspects of our salvation to include the spiritual growth of our soul?

Want to become a Christian that finds answers to your prayers, have a life of praise that moves mountains, and find insurance of the manifestation of the love of God in your life? It’s time to spend more time refreshing and building up your soul in the faith of Christ. We must tell our soul to rejoice, bless, thirst, and to seek the Lord and worship His Holy Name. This is what David did (Psalm 104:1) and I have done also. It’s time for true ‘soul worship’ to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit…may my soul magnify the Lord!
