The Unknown Sins
The Role of the Holy Spirit
We all have sin and our sin can do a good job of hiding. It is not uncommon to not know when or how we have sinned against God or anyone person. We often sin not knowing we have sinned. Of course, some sin is obvious and yet there are somethings sins we do not recognize, neither the circumstances of how we have sinned against God or people.
It is the “unknown sins” that only the Holy Spirit can bring too light. This is why we need the Holy Spirit and understand how He works in the lives of those who receive His activity in their lives.
Jesus said in 16:7-11, “And When he (the Comforter) is come, he will reprove the world of sin and righteousness and judgement.” Jesus wanted us to know what the job of the Holy Spirit (the Comforter) would be. Why, so we would recognize the Holy Spirit’s activity. As we know from Scripture and personal experiences, we know that we can hamper the active of the Holy Spirit.
Often, and I do mean often, we do not recognize that it is the Holy Spirit trying to convict us of sin; sin we do not recognize as sin. I am not talking about how the world tries to ‘lay a guilt trip on us’ but real sin that God does not like. This is the ‘unknown sins’ that exist in our lives.
It is the ‘unknown sins’ that the Holy Spirit is trying to root out of our lives—our heart, soul, spirit, and mind. Sin is complicated and it is multi-facet. Sin can hide in our lives so easily that we do not recognize its existence.
Jesus wants us clean and forgiven in every aspect of our being. We must become sensitive to what the Holy Spirit is saying to us and respond to him with true repentance. These unknown sins can do as much damage to the believer, similar to and just as the effects of bitterness and resentment destroy the Body of Christ from within.
Let’s ask for the ‘Fire of God’ to bring to light unknown sins and allow us to repent of these hidden sins. Let’s make our lives clean and white by the blood of the lamb by allowing the Comforter and fire of God to bring forgiveness and replace His Peace in our lives where the unknown sins were once present.
