Which Jesus Are You Looking For?
The disciples of Christ were confused about their Messiah. Jewish people were looking for a Messiah that would drive out the Romans and place the Israel nation in a place of international importance. Jesus confused the people of Israel and still does today.
I can only imagine what it would have been like if I could have followed Jesus during His three years of ministry in Galilee. What will happen now, before and during His Second Coming, so many things will be different. It is the final Biblical prophecy of Christ that will soon be fulfilled. “The Revelation of Jesus Christ”, as it is stated in Revelation 1:1, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants, things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John”. It is this Christ who will be so dramatically different that the church needs to realize whom this Jesus really is and ‘be ready’ to accept who He is at His second coming.
We do not know much about Jesus before the creation event. God says to Jesus and the Holy Spirit, “Let’s make man in our image.” Man could have been made in some other image but as parents produce children in their image, it was God who initiated this process and made man & women in the image of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The church talks and preaches the Jesus who we know the most about “the Jesus that was made flesh and dwelt among us”, as the Gospels state. It is this Jesus that our faith is based on and who we believe in—Jesus, God as a man walking on the earth. But this is not the complete and total view of Christ. There is a Jesus coming that John did not recognize in Revelation. John did not recognize the Jesus who he walked with, who he loved, and who he witnessed being taken away into the clouds to heaven.
The Jesus witnessed by John in the Book of Revelation is frightening and all powerful. This Jesus that is coming back in ‘His full glory’ having the glory He had before the Trinity made man in Their image. This is Jesus, the Jesus that is “Jesus the same, yesterday, today, and forever.” This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, who Jesus really is—the combination of who Jesus was before the creation; the Jesus who walked on the earth and was crucified; and finally, the Jesus who is coming back in all His glory and power. This is the ‘same Jesus’—all three aspects of Christ now blended into one.
If you and I would see the Jesus who is coming back, we would also probably not recognize Him and would be afraid as John was in Revelation. It is time to see Jesus for who He is—past, present, and future. Jesus asked the Father for the glory He once had to be returned to Him when He prayed in the garden before His crucifixion. It is this glory that Jesus wanted in order to fulfill His destiny and which the Father said to Him, “Come sit at my side while I place all your enemies under your feet.” This is the Jesus that we need to see, serve, and worship.
I am looking for not just the Jesus who walked this earth, nor just the Jesus that was before time began, but the ‘forever Jesus’ that is all powerful and full of all the glory of heaven. I see and love this Jesus which all creation cries out to come back to earth and who John said, “Come Lord Jesus, Come.”
This is my Jesus who saw me before time began and created me; who loved me before I loved Him and saw me when He died for me; and finally, who will return in order to take me home to heaven to be with Him forever—He is my King!
