Which Jesus do you seek?

Which Jesus is it?

The Christian Church has invented too many ‘Jesus’. It is as if the Jesus of the Bible was not good enough. When I went through seminary the best place to be was by a window so I could throw out all the teachings that were misleading or false. Too often the classes were more like ‘political classes’ one would take to receive a BA degree in Political Science.

I like the Jesus that saved me! That Jesus was good enough for me. The Jesus that placed joy and peace in my life was all the Jesus I needed. If you missed the “Jesus Movement” of the ’60s and ’70s you might not know what I am talking about. The real Jesus makes each and every person new—always and without any flaws. The old person is done away with, and you became the person you were always meant to be, but you did not realize that until Jesus entered your life.

We all felt (the Jesus people of the ’70s) that Jesus could do anything and that His love for us was undefinable—we tried but could not describe it completely. I often desire for those days to reappear. Where did Jesus Go? He is still here offering Himself to a world that is confused, hurting, and lost in its sin, but people do not talk much about this Jesus.

It is sin, not anything else that is destroying our world. Darkness prevails in every aspect of our nation, and people think politics or “green-living” will take care of or fix what is wrong with America. But it is still and will always be our sin! I like to use the phrase, “It is your sin, stupid!”

What is wrong with our climate—it’s your sin.

What is wrong with our political system—it’s your sin.

Why can’t people get along—it’s your sin.

Can’t sleep, always depressed, so many feelings of inadequacy—it’s your sin.

Unable to love or be loved—it’s your sin.

No one can remove or cancel sin in one’s life without God. It is one’s sin that gets in the way of you responding to God or seeking His help. Far too many people will not give up their sins in order for God to make things right or feel wholesome in one’s life.

It is just that simple. Sin is our #1 enemy, and people love and want their sins. This is why there is so much hate and anger in America. This is why our climate (and ‘mother-nature’) is going crazy—acting erratic and unpredictable. You and I will not be able to stop God’s anger and His purpose for America—America is not going to give up its sin.

Is there hope? Of course, there is, but it is only found in Jesus Christ. The Jesus I found in the Jesus Movement. I found this Jesus through three things—repentance (lots of crying); two, reading the Bible (finding what God wants to do instead of me deciding what is good for my life); and three, I could not pray enough—that is all I wanted to do was ‘talk to God all the time’.

So, if you want to be happy and find peace do these three things: cry and seek forgiveness for your sins every day, read or listen to the Bible being read, and of course, talk to God about everything you want to do or are doing. If you do these three simple things, you will find God and He will bring a constant and sustaining revival into your life.
