Encouragement with Warnings
God is always purposeful, full of wisdom, and brings justice through praise. What we call Palm Sunday is in honor and recognition of Jesus riding on a donkey into the City of Jerusalem. This story embodies God’s purpose, praise, judgment, and a true demonstration of His wisdom.
From this event in Jesus’s life, He now will speak of God’s judgment. He had always brought healing and forgiveness before this event but now Jesus must warn the world and specifically Jerusalem of pending judgment.
These warnings of Jesus are even more true today. I would speak only of praise to God (worship) and making oneself clean (repentance) if I was a pastor. I would do less preaching and more incorporating worship into all services. Remember the natural laws of an Olive Tree. An Olive Tree does not produce more quality fruit with more water but with a lack of water and more wind and sunlight. We must have the Holy Spirit moving in and throughout our lives to produce the Fruit of the Spirit.
If there were any words of wisdom that would encourage a Christian and make them prepared for God’s judgment it would be these: one, listen to the Bible being read to you (don’t just read but listen, listen, listen); two, put praise in one’s mouth (not any Christian song but the songs that give praise, honor, and thankfulness to Jesus Christ); and last, have courage willing to stand up for what is right, good, and honest using the laws of God and the teaching of Jesus to guide you along.
Palm Sunday should be an everyday experience not a one-time event for Christians.
