Loving Too Much…Is Not Loving at All
It is extremely difficult to be humble and/or react with humility in today’s culture. Jesus made it quite clear that being meek (humble) was the only way to inherit what God has given to us. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” Matthew 10:5. We are taught in this world to be self-assured, aggressive, and forceful if you want to prosper and become successful in today’s culture, but being a Christian is just the opposite.
Jesus warned us about loving this world more than we love God—it will only increase failure, loneliness, and being manipulated by others. Jesus said If you love anyone more than you love God you are not worthy of what God has to offer (Matthew 10:37).
When a Christian combines these two principles into one’s life things begin to happen. You will begin to see answers to prayers, you will become happy even in the most difficult situation, and the Bible will ‘come alive’ in ways you never thought possible.
One cannot be all that God wants you to be without humility and loving God more than you love others. There will come times in your life when God tries you to see if you are meek enough not to depend on what you believe is the right thing to do and if you love God more than you love that other person. As it was with Abraham and his son Isaac so will it be with you. God tries us to see if we indeed believe in and love Him more than anything else. This is one of the many job descriptions of the Holy Spirit. He is sent to try and prepare us for the Coming of Jesus Christ.
The humbler one becomes the wealthier one will be, and the more you love God, the more you will be able to love others. Humility before wealth and loving God before loving others. This is what a Christian is to be.
Having a hard time understanding and believing in this concept. It’s time for you to take a long and good look at Jesus Christ. He humbled Himself when He accepted His death on the cross and loved God more than anything else so He could love you and me to the fullest. Just use Christ’s life as your example to follow, you will not go wrong!
