The Second-Best News You Will Ever Receive

Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

2

He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

3

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4

Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.

5

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

6

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

8

By oppression [1] and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. [2]

9

He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.

10

Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes [3] his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

11

After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light [of life] [4] and be satisfied [5] ; by his knowledge [6] my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

12

Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, [7] and he will divide the spoils with the strong, [8] because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.

What’s in a Palm Sunday?

April 2, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John (2SoJ)

Encouragement with Warnings

God is always purposeful, full of wisdom, and brings justice through praise. What we call Palm Sunday is in honor and recognition of Jesus riding on a donkey into the City of Jerusalem. This story embodies God’s purpose, praise, judgment, and a true demonstration of His wisdom.

From this event in Jesus’s life, He now will speak of God’s judgment. He had always brought healing and forgiveness before this event but now Jesus must warn the world and specifically Jerusalem of pending judgment.

These warnings of Jesus are even more true today. I would speak only of praise to God (worship) and making oneself clean (repentance) if I was a pastor. I would do less preaching and more incorporating worship into all services. Remember the natural laws of an Olive Tree. An Olive Tree does not produce more quality fruit with more water but with a lack of water and more wind and sunlight. We must have the Holy Spirit moving in and throughout our lives to produce the Fruit of the Spirit.

If there were any words of wisdom that would encourage a Christian and make them prepared for God’s judgment it would be these: one, listen to the Bible being read to you (don’t just read but listen, listen, listen); two, put praise in one’s mouth (not any Christian song but the songs that give praise, honor, and thankfulness to Jesus Christ); and last, have courage willing to stand up for what is right, good, and honest using the laws of God and the teaching of Jesus to guide you along.

Palm Sunday should be an everyday experience not a one-time event for Christians.

Lessons from Proverbs

March 17, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John

Lessons from Proverbs

Knowledge is no good without…

The Book of Proverbs (The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel) has much to say about the interaction between knowledge, understanding, discernment, discretion, and wisdom as these attributes relate to integrity, truthfulness, righteousness, and faithfulness. These qualities are rarely found in today’s businesses, programs, governmental actions, and laws, as well as, in our judicial, medical, and political systems.

But what I am more concerned about is how these attributes work together in Christian lives. It is not taught nor understood how these spiritual attributes depend on and are connected to each other. These qualities cannot nor are meant to work alone but are always connected to each other in their manifestation and operations just like the Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit.

Here is one of the first principles of Proverbs. Knowledge, in fact, any kind of knowledge (natural or spiritual), is no good to anyone by itself alone. Knowledge needs help to be effective, especially spiritual knowledge and Godly truths.

If you get knowledge, you then must get understanding (comprehend its usefulness) and then one must get wisdom (the connection to the purposes and will of God) and this finally brings one to faith (which is your decision, choice, action, or response to the purposes and will of God). So, knowledge is of no spiritual good unless it leads one to faith—the production of God’s perfect will in any given situation or within the life of the believer.

I like to say, “Knowledge just isn’t any good unless and is totally useless without understanding, wisdom, and faith.” So, if it is knowledge you seek, do not forget about understanding, wisdom, and faith. It is only then that you will produce the fruit of knowledge God wants you to have, no use for His Glory.

This is a lesson, some wisdom for your day!

Saying for the Week

Saying for the Week

God’s wisdom will never fail you, but prophecies and theology will. Why do you ask, because Jesus said they would, and wisdom begins with the ‘fear of the Lord’; this fear saved Jesus Christ from death the Bible says.

It’s time to be scared not smart.

Forgivenss is a 2-Way Street

March 5, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John (2SoJ)

Unable to Forgive

I see this often within the Body of Christ—the lack of forgiveness and the healing justice of God. When someone within our group/church/Christian family sins, we did not offer them forgiveness even though they repented and asked for kindness and mercy from the very people that were their friends.

The Body of Christ is self-righteous when they do not give forgiveness freely and willingly. We simply judge others and use the justification—“If I did not sin like that then I am not willing to forgive your sin.” This behavior is a sign of pride and arrogance—"I am better than you” syndrome.

When did Jesus ever say this attitude and behavior was OK. This is religious pride it is ‘hypocrisy’ in action, which the Bible has lots to say about. Hypocrisy will not only keep you out of heaven, but your judgment will be more severe and an embarrassment to Christ.

Anytime you judge without mercy you are in danger of hell and fiery judgment. One cannot receive mercy from God, nor will you find your name in the Book of Life. God forgives us, and we need to offer forgiveness to others quickly and willingly—this is how it works in the Body of Christ.

Question: You know of anyone you broke off a friendship with because you could not forgive their sin(s) and did not offer them a chance to make things, right? If you have then you just kept yourself from receiving forgiveness from Jesus Christ. If you want forgiveness that is fulfilling, life-changing, and that makes you new, inside and out, start forgiving others before you ask forgiveness from God—don’t be a hypocrite which will make you bitter, lonely, and rejected by the Holy Spirit!

A Personal Letter of Wisdom

February 28, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John (2SoJ)

A Personal Letter; Full of Wisdom

Dear Friend,

God says we must love our enemies (Matthew 5:43-48).

It’s hard to do sometimes.

But it can start by telling the truth.

You and I may possibly believe in truth, God’s absolute truth, but how can His truth be honored if we do not speak or act upon it?

As a Christian, I must be obedient and involved in the full purposes of God which will often cause many to be offended. However, being obedient to Jesus never brings dishonor to Him. The only thing that dishonors Him is not obeying Him.

I believe an appropriate question for the Church today regarding homosexuality and related issues is, “Am I being loyal to the notions of Jesus, or loyal to Him?” Are we, His Church, remaining loyal to what He has clearly stated in His Word regarding homosexuality, or are we trying to find compromises with conceptions that never came from Him?

There is no question that homosexuality has become perhaps the most controversial social issue of our time. While that is certainly important, true, and relevant, there is a far greater issue, crisis, and concern at hand.

Frankly, homosexuality should never have been, nor should it now be the primary concern of the Church. What has been unfolding for decades and what continues today, mostly unchallenged, is a rejection of God and a suppression of His truth, His absolute truth, in favor of being wise in our own eyes.

As a result, herein lies the dilemma for many today, “Will I reject God’s absolute truth, the authority of His Word, or will I by the power of the Holy Spirit surrender and conform my life to the Word of God?”

In a time when far too many lives and our culture are being shaped by political correctness and moral cowardice, the time is long overdue for faithful followers of Christ Jesus to stand unwaveringly on God’s absolute truth.

Is it not abundantly clear that we, God’s people, are standing front and center of one of the greatest crossroads the Church has ever faced?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “A man dies when he refuses to stand up for what is right; a man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice; a man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true.”

We are treading on terribly treacherous turf.

Ultimately, I am satisfied God’s truth, His absolute truth, will always “be” whether you and I or anyone else believes it or likes it. 1 Corinthians 13:6 says, “Love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rather rejoices with truth.”

Personally, I cannot come to any other conclusion other than “love, pure, true, undefiled love supports absolute truth.”

Christ-follower, we must challenge our culture with God’s absolute truth because feelings, personal opinions, theories, notions, and ideas have consequences.

Today, many are finding God’s absolute truth much too threatening.

Understandably so, because when you love sin, it is impossible to love God’s absolute truth.

Wisdom for the Latter Days

February 27, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John (2SoJ)

Wisdom of the Latter Days

As I wrote to you a year ago stating that the Later Day Outpouring of the Holy Spirit would begin in February 2022. It did begin a year ago and God, being faithful to what He promised, is being noticed during February 2023.

I am sure you have heard of Asbury University Revival and the spreading of the Presence of the Lord in many other universities. We now have movies, various media groups, and well-known individuals speaking up about their relationship with Jesus Christ. All of this and more is not by accident but by God’s Divine Design in all areas of our culture.

Much more will be happening; it will continue to grow! As I have stated, you will read or hear prophetic words from ‘unknowns’ in the Body of Christ. The well-known prophets and traditional leaders of the Christian movement will fail—they have failed us in the past because they wanted people to ‘look at them’ and set themselves up as ‘important’ with ‘specialty titles’ so as to give honor to themselves—stealing honor from God.

This last move of the Holy Spirit, which will be the combination of all past revivals and movements of the Holy Spirit— will no longer be about one person or ministry. No person will become more important than any other person or ministry. God will give more honor to the ‘unknowns’—those who give all glory to God, keeping nothing for themselves.

As faith is about humility and unworthiness so is the Second Pentecost as I call this movement of God’s Presence. This must come to pass for God to fulfill each and every verse of the Bible for this is the time for battles between God’s Kingdom and Satan’s rule. If you are not willing to fight, God will not be on your side, nor will you receive anything from the Holy Spirit. This movement includes fighting and battles will be raging not only on earth but also in heaven.

I suggest you do this one simple task each day as you arise and take your place in the Body of Christ. Say this, “God what are you going to do today? Can you show me what you want me to do? God, please give me whatever I need to accomplish your will, your Kingdom’s purpose, and your divine direction as you show it to me. I want to do what you want me to do.”

Do not think or desire to do anything without God leading you, knowing it will include fighting as Samson fought, a walk of faith with humility as Peter and John walked, and steadfastness in the likeness you have never experienced before as King David was steady in Jesus.

I am praying for you. If you fall get up for righteousness a person can fail many times in a day and still get God’s will accomplished. This is the wisdom of the Latter Days.

Guest Author/Timothy Brinkley

The Sluggish Christian

The image of a slug calls to mind a slimy creature with a slimy trail. The slime at first is smooth, silky, and sticky, yet after a day of drying, it solidifies and leaves a shiny trace that can be seen clearly from specific angles. In the same way, there is a spiritual slime that can enter our lives smoothly and then solidify into an obstacle as hard as cement.

As a Christ-follower who has an income and who has all physical needs met, from a worldly perspective it would seem I don’t need anything else. However, this may be the source of a spiritual sluggishness that creeps in from all sides. Like a fluorescent slime, at first interesting, flexible and flowy, it slowly solidifies after it touches a person leaving those in it cemented in place. It creeps into the sanctuary of my heart making me feel comfortable and content, but when I try to reconnect with Father God, it prevents me from having a humble posture, a thankful heart, and removes my hunger for His presence and word. In this written post, I will expose this position of our hearts that our enemy likes to capitalize on and share how to counter it.

Jesus’ voice loudly reverberates through the Bible compassionately encouraging us and patiently leading us away from evil and along His path to life. In the book of Hebrews, the author communicates a similar desire and shares his struggle to mature new believers into becoming more like Christ.

On this topic, we have much to say, and it is difficult to explain since you have become sluggish in hearing.

Heb. 5:11 NET

It is not impossible to explain, it is just difficult because they have started to succumb to sluggishness.

He wants them to grow past the basics taught to new believers (6:1-2):

  • repentance from dead works

  • faith in God

  • teaching about baptism

  • laying on of hands

  • the resurrection of the dead

  • eternal judgment

so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherit the promises.

Heb. 6:12 NET

Sluggishness is what is to blame for the believer’s spiritual apathy. In the original Greek language, the word for sluggish is nothros (νωθρός). Vine’s Dictionary of New Testament Words has an interesting note about this in comparing it to two other Greek synonyms argos and bradus.

Vine’s Dictionary: Note: In Luk 24:25 "slow (of heart)" translates the synonymous word bradus. Of these Trench says (Syn. civ), "Bradus differs from the words with which it is here brought into comparison, in that no moral fault or blame is necessarily involved in it; so far indeed is it from this, that of the three occasions on which it is used in the NT two are in honor; for to be ‘slow’ to evil things, to rash speaking, or to anger (Jam 1:19, twice), is a grace, and not the contrary…. There is a deeper, more inborn sluggishness implied in nothros, and this bound up as it were in the very life, more than in either of the other words of this group. Trench compares and contrasts argos, "idle," but this word is not strictly synonymous with the other two."

It seems that the word nothros has to do with a life/heart/mind/perspective/worldview issue. It could be ungodly interference with the way we interpret life, or it could be a deep-rooted agreement with an old lie. Looking at equivalents for this word in Hebrew shows that it is used twice in the Septuagint Old Testament written in Greek: aw-vaw’ and khaw-shoke’.

A man is commended according to his good sense,

but one of twisted mind (slow of heart) is despised.

Pro 12:8 ESV

עָוָה (Pronunciation: aw-vaw’ Strong’s H5753) Outline of Biblical usage: to bend, twist, distort, (Niphal) to be bent, be bowed down, be twisted, be perverted, (Piel) to twist, distort, (Hiphil) to do perversely, to commit iniquity, do wrong, pervert, (Qal) to do wrong, commit iniquity, (Hiphil) to commit iniquity

Septuagint: nothrokardios: νωθροκάρδιος

The one above, aw-vaw’, speaks of a messed-up worldview, enough that the decisions being made are twisted and it affects the way people perceive us. In this verse, if we are sluggish in heart, we are despised.

Do you see a man skillful in his work?

He will stand before kings;

he will not stand before obscure (sluggish) men.

Prov. 29:11

חָשֹׁךְ (Pronunciation: khaw-shoke’ Strong’s H2823) Outline of Biblical usage: obscure, insignificant, low, mean, ignoble

Septuagint: νωθρός: nothros

This second Hebrew word equivalent, khaw-shoke’, sheds more light on the word sluggish: obscure, average to low. With the parallelism common through the Proverbs, this verse can also mean that pursuing skill or getting good at something useful, is a way to avoid sluggishness–not just physically but spiritually as well. There are many other ways, God’s Word suggests countering sluggishness.

Countering Sluggishness

How do you fight against sluggishness?

Ministering to others, praying for others,

  • Heb. 4:15 overcoming temptation

  • Heb. 5:2 compassion

  • Heb. 5:7 loud cries and tears

  • Heb. 5:8 suffering, devotion

  • Heb. 6:1 progress beyond the elementary instruction about Christ and move on to maturity

  • Heb. 6:7 produce useful vegetation

  • 1Cor. 4:17 Timothy…will remind you (others reminding you)

  • 1Cor. 2:4 Not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a demonstration of power.

  • Eph. 4:11 the five-fold ministry of apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers

  • Matt. 5:6 Hunger and thirst for righteousness

  • Prov. 1:7 fear of God

  • SoS. 8:14 come away my beloved
