Wisdom for the Week

True Purpose is…

Our true purpose is not doing what you want to do but…

our true purpose is finding what God wants to have happen,

and you being able to believe Him for it.

Guest Author/"But then it started to rain…"

“They were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage…but then it started to rain.” (Luke 17:27)

While homosexuality has become perhaps the most controversial social issue of our time, often resulting in a host of challenging, if not divisive questions, it is also an undeniable fact the homosexual community, through a masterful plan, has achieved monumental results in a very, very short period of time. There is no doubt that homosexuality (an identity based on sexual preference) is a multi-dimensional phenomenon.

Today, the homosexual agenda continues its march from state to state and nation to nation. Education systems have become much more tolerant and sensitive to LGBT students with false pro-homosexual lessons being taught through health education curriculum. Religious institutions have and continue to revise the historic teachings on homosexual practice by caving to social trends in order to accommodate active homosexuals. There is no question as to the media and movies having become pulpits relentlessly promoting homosexual practice often without question, challenge or debate. Compounding the crisis and continuing to fuel the phenomenon is the reluctance, if not total disregard by scientific organizations and churches, to allow any discussion about the causes and the resolving of unwanted same-sex attraction.

No doubt, the pinnacle of success for the homosexual community has been the legalization of same-sex marriage. The homosexual community successfully and dramatically blurred the lines enough making “love” the ingredient, the quality which has the power to validate anything that is done in its name.

The homosexual community, though a relatively small segment of society, has nevertheless become extremely significant and influential. And, so it seems, the achievements and the power of the politically organized and active homosexual community has it all.

But is this really the case?

“…sin is fun for a season.” (Hebrews 11:25)

Beginning to surface more and more by both men and women practicing homosexuality, largely influenced, and generated by the accomplishments of the homosexual community, is a sense and questioning of true personal value, a true sense of being loved and accepted, and a sense (question) of living a meaningful life. In other words…

“Those of us that proudly proclaim to be gay-identified and now have the legal right to pursue what we deem ‘natural,’ free from any and all forms of discrimination based on orientation and/or behavior, free to be, free to do, free to go, socially accepted, and free to practice a sexual preference in a social environment free from prejudicial treatment even by those who find such behavior completely unacceptable, even free from religious establishments…”

“Why aren’t all these freedoms freeing?”
“Why am I still so empty?”
“Why isn’t this working for me?”

“…He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

Homosexuality, rather than being a divine gift that needs to be celebrated, is now being seen as anything but ‘gay’ by many.

And, they will be turning to the Church in greater numbers.

Those making the decision to leave homosexual practice and the gay community will not just be abstaining from or abandoning sexual sin, they will be disconnecting from a whole network of support and an identity. Having made the right choice to say “No!” to homosexual practice, they will be arriving on our church doorsteps with absolutely nothing.

Will we, God’s people, celebrate the decision of the homosexual who has said “Yes” to God and “No” to homosexuality?

Will we, God’s people, be abundantly clear in affirming the biblical position that God loves all people, that homosexual practice is but one sin among many and that the Holy Spirit is available to transform all persons – including homosexual persons?

Will we, God’s people, minister to persons struggling with homosexuality, their families, and all others affected by homosexuality as partners in Christ’s work of healing?

Will we, God’s people, integrate all persons striving to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ into full membership in the local church?

“Indeed, it is raining but not just on the homosexual.”

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.” (Acts 2:17)

All Christians are part of God’s overall plan for the redemption of the world. To say, “The Church is of God,” means that we are not part of some optional and respectable social club.

The Church is called by God “out of the world” in order to transform the world.

Each of us, then, is part of God’s plan.

“A much-needed later rain has begun.”

“Pastor, the homosexuals are coming, the homosexuals are coming!”

“Wonderful! They can have a seat next to the gossips, those having sex before marriage, the adulterers, the liars, those that drink excessively, the greedy…”

We, His Church, must stand for Jesus Christ and witness to His grace and power – to and for all people.

God has no heroes

January 28, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John

God Has No Heroes

Christians that truly and sincerely serve Jesus Christ are not heroes but servants. In fact, they consider themselves “unworthy servants” and not a person of importance. They do not accept an inflated status that elevates themselves above others. Humility is what keeps them going and their faith is great because of it, producing the works of Christ.

Luke 17:3-10: “Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him." And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith." So, the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’? Does he think that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. So, likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do’.”

The answer to the question (increase our faith) is in verse 17:10, “So, likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do’.”

Jesus’s point about a mustard seed is that one either has faith or you do not have faith. Faith is your response to God. You either respond to Him or you do not respond to Christ. It is a decision. A mustard seed of faith is all you need—a mustard seed of faith even ‘very small faith’ is the same as a ‘great-large amount of faith’, they are the same. The difference is your response to God and your attitude concerning yourself. Are you going to get what you ask for because you are ‘a somebody’, important, or self-righteous? Nope, you are always an unworthy servant and anything you do was required of God; you do nothing that is self-motivating, but it is always God in you.

We will always have faith that moves anything when we are servants, and not just any servant with personal status but an ‘unworthy servant’. (Note: a person that forgives others all the time is a person that is humble and does not judge others but allows God alone to judge them—our job is to forgive a lot!)

This is how one sets oneself up to exercise great faith (which is only a tiny bit of faith). It is the one who responds to God in humility and unworthiness. Remember the story about the Roman Centurion that Jesus said, “He had not found so great a faith in Israel.”

Matthew 8:8-10: “The centurion replied, ‘Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it. When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, ‘Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith’.”

Church it is time to walk in wisdom and humility so to respond to God in mustard-seed faith. God has no heroes only unworthy servants, and it is those servants who have ‘great faith’.

The Battle; Your Choice

January 22, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John

“The Battle”—Have You Enlisted?

We are in a battle! You can see it in the news, social media, and all institutions in our nation. It is a battle between right and wrong. I was born to fight in this battle and so were you! Not only are there wars on earth, with more to come, but there are wars in the heavens. God promised that they would come, and the Bible has lots to say about these battles. It is the job of the Holy Spirit to guide, strengthen, and equip you to fight in these battles…“the good fight of faith”.

All things of faith are ‘a choice’. In fact, God tells us to ‘choose this day’. There is no hiding or walking away—we must choose. You cannot get into the Promised Land without a fight, and you cannot obtain the Kingdom of God without a fight. The battle for the Kingdom of God will be the greatest battle the world has ever seen. Are you ready? Have you prepared? Are you mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally up to the task of confronting evil, bringing everything under Christ’s feet, and seeing every verse of the Bible fulfilled? The battle is upon us, and it requires everyone to be bold, always faithful, and willing to sacrifice.

I am always surprised when I find a Christian that does not or is unprepared to be persecuted. Persecution is a requirement to be a Christian! You and I cannot avoid persecution if you are doing the will of God. You will be ridiculed, belittled, offended, hated, and even killed or prosecuted. This is our calling, to suffer even as Christ suffered. This is the “Crown of Thorns” that Christ wore on His head while hanging on the cross. He not only carried our sins, and our sicknesses but also our persecution. His crown was not a mistake for He carried our persecution, calling us to persecution when He said, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:10 NIV. (A personal note: I do not believe a person can obtain unto God’s Holiness without persecution.)

So, if you are not ‘suiting up’ with the Armor of God each day, you are in a lot of trouble! A Christian cannot stand or sit on the sidelines—if you do, you are no good to God, and God will take away your candlestick, your name out of the Book of Life, and He will also spit you out of His mouth. Jesus will not remember you on the Day of Judgment and your new home will be in a Lake of Fire. This is your future if you do not fight, if you do not prepare yourself for battle, and if you are not persecuted. A ‘YouVersion’ verse of the day: “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow meMatthew 16:24 KJV. It cannot be much clearer than that!

The Saying for the Week

I rather have no reputation at all or even a poor reputation if what I did was right and good than have a good and respectful reputation and did that which is wrong or unkind.

Got Purpose?

January 17, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John

Having Purpose/Preparing for 2023

You and I were born to have ‘purpose’. Not just any kind of purpose or purpose that is self-generated, but a purpose that gives meaning, strength, and character to exist in a world that destroys purpose. This world’s purpose rarely lasts or gives purpose with fulfillment.

I have tried to succeed in having purpose in whatever I choose to do, but when I leave God out of the equation of finding purpose, I fail to find purpose with meaning, fulfillment, and satisfaction.

I was struggling with what God was having me read in the Bible—the verses were depressing and almost without hope. As I woke up one morning God spoke this one word to me, “purpose.” This is what I was missing to stay happy and fulfilled.

The same very day I received confirmation to have purpose. You and I cannot love God nor fulfill His will without purpose. What God wanted of me was to do whatever I do, to do it unto the Lord. God was not going to give me a purpose for my life but for me to create purpose by acknowledging whatever I do to invite and do my activities as worship to Him.

So as the Bible states, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). So, it does not matter what I do, but rather, I can find health, happiness, and contentment in whatever I do. This is an easy way for all of us to have purpose especially when things get tough or when life’s events become dark and full of evil.

All of us can have purpose! So, acknowledge Christ and do all things no matter how small for the glory of God being thankful to Christ. This will give you purpose even when it is tasks that you might not enjoy—even ‘reading verses in the Bible’ that frighten you.

Now I go about doing whatever and say, “I am doing this for you, God” and let it be. God takes the worry and fear out of what I am doing, and I now find purpose and freedom.

Isn’t it grand to be a Christian!

P.S. The Holy Spirit has ‘opened up’ the Bible to me in ways I have never found, heard, or understood before. I do not know what has happened, but in the last three months, whenever I read the Bible, it is like I have never read it before! This has not happened just to me, but others have shared with me their testimonies about understanding the Bible more than ever. This is one of many attributes, God promised would happen in the last days and during the ‘Latter Rain’ which I call the ‘Second Pentecost’. There will come a hunger for God’s Word, the Bible, like no one, has ever seen before. Even greater than during the “Jesus Movement” (during the late ’60s and early ’70s) when Jesus was talked about wherever you went.

What’s Happening?

January 15, 2023 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John

What’s Happening—the Introduction

Much has been happening in my life over the past four weeks. God wanted me to ‘shut-up’ and just listen. So, listening I have been doing—which was hard for me. Then I had to check with others in the Body of Christ to see if what was happening to me and what God was saying is confirmed by others.

I noticed that there were prophetic words coming out of the Body of Christ that were not correct and totally misleading. So much is happening just as Christ said would come—false teachers and prophets in the last days. With that being said, there are a few things I have learned, which have scared me, i.e., what is upon us is happening faster than I expected.

Do not be fooled, it should not be politics that Christians should be most concerned about but what God is saying and doing. Too often false leaders in the Church get out eyes off Christ on what politicians are doing in Washington or how to prosper financially in this world. Rather, it is ‘how our souls prosper’ is what the Holy Spirit is concerned with not how to live comfortably in this world.

The next series of articles is about what God has been saying to me, and I am sure Jesus has been talking to you about similar issues and what is on God’s agenda for His Church.

If there is one thing, I have found being a Christian, “It is never dull loving Jesus Christ.” So, let us get prepared and wise together and focus our eyes on Jesus, only looking to Him for all things and rejoicing in the Truth alone. This is the rock and solid ground that Jesus wants us to stand upon.

A Christmas Day Question

December 25, 2022 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John (2SoJ)

Wisdom Question for Christmas Week

Whose people, are you?

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save His people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 KJV

God gives His people purpose, but only in Christ.

When we call God’s son, Jesus, there is purpose.

To call God’s son Jesus, one must believe in Him.

And, if you believe in Jesus, you become His people.

It is when you become His people then you can have, find, and receive forgiveness.

What makes you, His people? Only the ones with their sins forgiven.

This is the purpose of Christ today, on Christmas, and forever!

Wisdom question for the week

December 18, 2022 WWJWMTD by Steve, the son of John (2SoJ)

Wisdom Question for the Week

Whose slave, are you?

You only have three choices, choose wisely!

One, To oneself, that usually brings only anger, hatred, and jealousy.

Two, To Satan who only controls you and brings unfulfillment, disappointment, and personal destruction.

or

Three, To Christ, who gives you and me a new name. He takes us away from being a servant/slave in this world to oneself, to others, or to Satan. He opens the door for us to become a friend of God and calls us ‘His friend’ by giving us a new name. A name that brings life—a life of freedom and purpose.

So, choose wisely—freedom or slavery, it’s your life.
