…And Pray

A prophetic & theological word

What to pray? That is the question! I have humbled myself (step 1) and now God asks me to pray. Step number 2…”if my people would pray.”

2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and heal their land (NEV).

So often we see our ‘prayers go answered’. That is tragic yet a constant reality for so many Christians. It does not have to be like that. ‘Effective prayer’ does have three parts: positioning oneself to pray, aligning oneself with Christ in prayer, and of course, what to pray. Scriptures give wonderful examples about prayer and the three parts of effective prayer.

If there were an underlining theme to effective prayers I would say it is, “Keep prayers simple and not all prayers should be about you.” Here are the explanations to the three parts of effective prayers.

One, position oneself to pray and receive answers to your prayers. To position oneself in order for God to listen and respond to your prayers comes from Matthew 5:3, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” We all want heaven on earth and God through Christ has given it to us. But, God is not in the ‘giving business’ unless you are in the position to receive. God it looking for people of need—honestly searching for help, not for selfish reasons but reasons that support ‘Godly motives’.

For God to listen and respond to us we must be a Matthew 5:3 person. A person who is poor, i.e. a person who is broken and contrite—a person in constant repentance and humility; seeking God not for selfish motives but understanding that our best motives are always as ‘filthy rags’ to God. We are not worthy but God loves us in all our weaknesses, failures, and corruptness. It is only having a repentant heart and in brokenness of spirit that God comes to us—in listening and answering our prayers.

Two, aligning oneself with Christ so God’s will is accomplished in all we do, you must be a Matthew 5:4-5 person. God is looking and wanting His people to be people who ‘stand in the gap’ for others. So often we pray more for ourselves and only allow 10% of our prayers to be directed to others around us. God taught me this lesson years ago—put others before oneself.

God asked me to take care of a tremendous number of individuals, but my response to God was, “But God, who is going to take care of me?” I thought the burden was too great—I could not take care of so many people. You know what God said back to me, “I will. I will take care of you Steve if you take care of those I have placed around you.”

I repented immediately for my lack of faith, which was a lack of humility and understanding God’s great love for me. God wants me to take care of others

1st and He will take care of me—that is how it works. I mourn—I pray, I cry-out, I intercede through the Spirit of Christ for others—for God to take care of them. As Jesus prayed and told His Father, “I have kept those you gave to me”; I likewise ‘keep and take care’ of all those God brings into my life.

I need to be meek, “Blessed are the meek.” If I place others above and ahead of myself through prayer then God sees and responds. God wants me to be like Him—others 1st.

Three, what to pray is just as important as #1 & 2. We must pray correctly, that is why Jesus gave us the Lord’s Prayer and why we have the Bible. I suggest that one build the following points into one’s prayer life:

ü Pray scriptures. I suggest you find verses in the Bible to pray over others and yourself. Say the scripture out-loud and with feeling. The 100 days of Prayer and Intercession by Otis and Sue Davis is a good place to start. (You can find these articles about praying scriptures in my blog, www.wwjwmtd.com.)

ü Pray in humility and brokenness by always asking God for a spirit of repentance and forgiveness when praying for others. We all need forgiveness everyday in every situation.

ü Pray simple, short prayers. I have learned that it was the short and often the awkward prayer that got answered not the professional or formal prayer.

ü Pray often, pray while alone, and pray instantly! Do not make yourself the center of your prayers—this is why Jesus said go into your closet to pray. Keep your ‘prayer life’ between you and God or with only your spouse or close friend. Community prayers are often for show rather than connecting with God…so be humble and broken.

Praying, like faith, is effective only if one is humble. So do not think that God is only listening to the educated or flamboyant person. God is on the side of the ‘poor in spirit’. Be like Jesus—give everything to God in prayer and receive everything from God in gratefulness and humility through your three step prayer life.

Step One…If My People

A prophetic & theological word

Don’t you want forgiveness and healing…sure you do. In Christ it is easy but it takes 4 steps. Each step is important and sequence is important. Each subsequent step is dependent on the preceding step. Let’s deal with ‘Step One’…humility.

As I stated in my article yesterday, February 26, 2017, Have You Ever… “The Holy Spirit has been reaching out to me, talking to me about humility. He has been doing this in such a way that every Scripture I read or situation I find myself in, the Spirit says to me “Got humility?” He causes me to see or understand things about humility that challenges who I am and how I do things.”

This is how it works—it takes faith to move ahead in God, but faith is totally dependent on humility. What do you say? That’s right—no humility no faith.

Luke 7:1-10, the Roman centurion’s servant: “I am not worthy that you (Jesus) should come into my house, nor that I should come to you…Jesus’ reply, “I have not found this great faith in anyone that is an Israelite.” Humility produces great faith.

Luke 17:3-10, disciples asked Jesus what does it take to have faith and Jesus tells a story about a servant. Vs. 10: Jesus tells them what to say, “Say that we are unprofitable servants, that we have done only what we should have done—we deserve no reward or special recognition in the Kingdom of Heaven.” You want faith that works, it is only in & with humility—that we are always unworthy. Humility says ‘that it is God alone and we can only do His will if we never receive credit or seek recognition’.

Philippians 2: 7-8 “But Jesus made himself of no reputation, and took on Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, He (Jesus) humbled Himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross.” The point is that humility was the prerequisite to doing God’s will and being obedient, and your humility allows you to exercise faith and connects you to accomplishing God’s will.

I can tell you emphatically that if you struggle with exercising faith: receiving answers to prayers, living in the presence of God or even finding God’s will in any particular situation—it is because you have not embraced humility. You have placed you personhood above and ahead of God. You are not humble. You seek your will alone. You believe you deserve recognition, and furthermore, you deserve blessings or godly (anointed) status because of your service or position in the Body of Christ.

One cannot come to God without being humble, needy, poor in spirit—broken. I am nothing without God and nothing with God…it is ‘God alone’ and that’s OK with me.

Have You Ever…

God is always trying to get my attention, but I get busy—well, I think I am busy doing God’s will. I have often said to God, “I am too busy for this; (or) I do not have time for this!” I am working on getting together with God—you know, like a ‘hand-in-hand’ type of relationship.

God keeps saying to me, “Come-on Steve” or I am saying to Him, “Come-on God!” Nevertheless, He loves me and I likewise. The way He connects with me is to catch me off-guard. He does this often—it is His way of keeping me humble and me allowing Him to be Lord of my life. Needless to say, humility is not one of my strong points.

The Holy Spirit has been reaching out to me, talking to me about humility. He has been doing this in such a way that every Scripture I read or situation I find myself in, the Spirit says to me “Got humility?” He causes me to see or understand things about humility that challenges who I am and how I do things.

The other day, the Spirit was ‘driving me’ through some verses in the Bible—pushing me to read this verse then to jump to another verse. He had something to say to me, but I just wanted to get on to my next task.

Acts 8:33, “ In His (Jesus) humiliation, His judgment was taken away.” But I read this verse as saying, “In his humility, his judgment was removed.” I cannot tell you how I read this as such. I did not realize the misreading till that evening when I read it again and said to myself, “God, what are you trying to say to me?”

God knows how to get my ‘intellectual attention’ but it come at a cost to me—the Holy Spirit knows how to make me foolish and to humble me at the same time. The Spirit says to me, “You are not so smart after all, are you Steve?”

Anyhow, I like it when God speaks a truth to me but does it in such a way to humble me and yet at the same time, to be dependent on Him. Have you ever felt like this? Have you ever been ‘humbled through a mistake’ and ‘learned a truth through ignorance’?

Making a long story short, as I said, God had been talking to me about ‘humility’ for about two weeks, but wanted to make a point in such a way as to drive home what He wants me to become. I know now that only in true humility will God’s judgment on my life be dispelled. I can confirm this through many Scriptures and examples/stories in the Bible. If I would ask anything from God, knowing that He would only give me one request—it is ‘humility’ not faith, not anointing, not possessions. The ‘riches in Christ’ is found only in the humility of His grace (Eph 3:8).

Many things we now have or will have in Christ are given to us by the Holy Spirit, but they will not be needed in heaven. However, humility will always be needed and required—humility is knowing that God is everything and I am not worthy to be chosen by God. I can only say, ‘Give me humility or give me death (judgment).” Yes, I want to say with Christ, “He (Jesus) found Himself in the form of a man and humbled Himself, so He could do God’s will.” Our self-esteem is discovered in humility alone; it was Jesus who had perfect and complete fulfilling of His self-esteem. Jesus is my example of fulfillment, self-esteem and humility…the grace of God in me.

The Return of the Prodigals

A prophetic word by Victoria Boyson

(This article came to me this morning; I believe it is correct and important, so I decided to pass it along. Claim the promise what the Holy Spirit is doing among us, but not just for yourself but for others…God’s revival is to begin with us.)

There’s been something I’ve been sensing recently that I haven’t felt in many years. It’s something I’ve been waiting for – the Holy Spirit’s movement on His people. His subtle outpouring seems to be increasing everyday with a renewal of a hunger to reach the lost increasing and dramatically. And in particular, I feel His increased desire for the return of His prodigal sons and daughters to the bosom of His trusted Church.

Because of what they’ve endured, the prodigals are very treasured by the Father and He’s been waiting to bring them home until we, the Church, are prepared to receive them and fight for them.

The Father told me, "My prodigals want to come home!"

He said it with such ardency that I was literally undone, because the Father rarely says things with mere words. No, when He speaks, He imparts His heart as well. And, truly, His heart for the prodigals is overwhelming. I broke down as He let me feel some of the yearning and longing they are experiencing.

However, we have to ask ourselves, "Why has the Father waited so long to return them to us?" If they are so longing to return, why are they not just returning?

Father shared an in-depth view with me of the story of the prodigal son that Jesus shared in the Gospels…

A View of the Prodigals

I saw the prodigal returning home carrying an all-encompassing burden of shame. Indeed, he was at a place of such despair, He was desperate to feel the love of the Father and did not feel worthy to receive His forgiveness. He was afraid, afraid because of an oppressive demonic cloud that covered him as if it owned him.

In the world, he’d tried desperately to fight against this oppression, but got little more than a moment of relief from it. With its grip inevitably strengthening through pains of disappointment, the prodigal was utterly convinced he was irredeemable, which was the message the demons utilized to hold him captive to shame.

However brief, there were moments when the prodigal would wonder about the Father, most often when he would meet up with a loving Christian who’d been well seasoned in the love of the Father. Yet, shame all too often rose up like a blinding barrier reminding him of his past and convincing him, yet again, of the impossibility of his redemption.

I heard the words of lying spirits say things like, "You’ve tried that before, they will not accept you." Or, "You are too far gone, God could never love you." On and on the lies continued until he stopped fighting the objections of the enemy and simply let his mind relax in their seeming truth.

It is an absolute miracle of the Father that the lost have the courage to attempt to return to Him. It’s the desperation of their heart and the longing in their soul that gives them the strength to come back to God. Love-starved led redemption is incredibly powerful and its strength lies in its fervent humility. Broken to the point of hopelessness, the prodigals have nothing left to lose, and so they find the courage to return.

Feeling he could not be humiliated any more than he already had, the prodigal son felt he had no other choice but to try to go back home.

On making his way back to his Father, he recited the appeals for help he would make to him over and over in his mind. Feeling certain the Father could not love him after all his waywardness, he thought, "If I can only be a worker in my Father’s fields, that will be enough for me."

The idea that he deserved to be received back into his Father’s loving embrace did not occur to him, but he longed even to be near Him and close to His goodness – to feel the warmth of Him.

After what seemed like an impossible journey, he drew near his Father’s home and his resolve began to weaken. Nervousness, hopelessness and fear fought urgently to gain the upper hand in his heart, but his feet kept moving. Closer and closer, he suddenly begins to see off in the distance a bit of a commotion. He tries to focus and understand, but it seems incomprehensible.

Before he can comprehend what’s happening, he feels himself stop as he is suddenly wrapped up. Literally, engulfed in powerful arms, he’s overwhelmed by strength and feels the familiar scents and senses he’d not felt in some time.

Like an avalanche of emotion literally thrust upon him, he can scarcely breathe. He hears his Father’s voice, but can hardly take it all in. The familiar trusted voice is exploding in his mind. "What is he saying?" he tries to reason. "Wait," he questions. "Is He crying?" he asks himself as he senses the convulsing of his Father’s body against his. He couldn’t be crying, he reasoned. "NO," his mind screams. "I’m unworthy," as he is simply overwhelmed.

Suddenly, the Father grabs his son’s shoulders and holds him out at arm’s length. He wants to, again, look at his face and take in the return of a dream.

The Father’s face now covered in dirty tears, He is overcome with emotion at the sight of His beloved son. Grateful for his courage, the Father looks to assess the immediate needs of His son. Brimming with emotion, there isn’t anything He would not do for His son.

Wanting only for the stain of the lost years to be gone, the Father endeavors to draw him back into the fold as quickly and as assuredly as He can. He needs to make the return of His son COMPLETE!

Reestablishing him in all the gifts he’d once possessed, He washes away the smell of shame and fear and replaces it with a homecoming of peace and safety – to restore His son’s place in His heart.

The prodigal starts to relax, as he’s able now to accept what is happening to him. The servants begin to take part in the Father’s joy as He beckons them to come and see the prize returned to Him. Overjoyed for the Father, they congratulate the prodigal on his return and embrace him as the Father has done.

What a joyous scene! The endangered lost lamb has been returned to his Father!

All Roads Lead Through Jericho #4

Running in Circles

All Roads Lead Through Jericho…God commanded the children of Israel to run straight into the city once the walls were ground level. Many Christians run in circles while others run straight toward and into the will of God.

Here is a historical lesson for all you horse lovers. Secretariat was a triple-crown winner; his record as being the fastest horse still stands to this day. Some would say Secretariat was greatest racehorse of all time. Why was Secretariat so great—well, he ran in a straight-line.

“Secretariat ran straight, a fact proven by film study. Straightness during the gallop is an important advantage this almost as rare among racehorses as the ability to produce a double-suspension transverse gallop. Galloping ‘straight’ means, technically, that the leftward and rightward oscillations of the horse’s spine, rib cage ad sternum are equal, so that they cancel each other out…to the forward and upward reaction of the body which constitutes speed” (Equus Magazine, November 2013, issue 434). Secretariat discovered ‘straightness’ for himself—trainers did not help. Oh, what we can learn from God’s creation.

Here are some scriptures about running straight:

o Ps. 19:5 rejoicing to run his course

o Isa 40:31 they will run and not grow weary

o 1Cor 9:24 run in such a way as to get the prize

o Heb 12:1 let us run with perseverance the race

o Ps 27:11 lead me in a straight path

o Pr 3:6 and he will make your paths straight

o Pr 4:25 your eyes look straight ahead

o Pr 11:5 the blameless makes a straight way

o Pr 15:21 understanding keeps a straight course

o Jn 1:23 “Make straight the way for the Lord.”

When the will of God is involved with what you are doing, the only way for you to do the will of God is to ‘run straight’. Nothing is to deter you from doing what God is asking you to do. We are not to look at or consider anything else but only looking and wanting to complete the purposes of God.

It is only in having this determination, willingness and love for Him that will allow God to strengthen us and for God to complete His action plans. All of this ‘running straight’ has everything with faith and honoring God. It is time to run straight—be a Secretariat—be a ‘runner for Christ’! It is only by faith that I run with Christ.

The Death of a Valley

A prophetic word

To have a ‘prophetic word’ is one thing; to understand and interpret ‘the word’ is something totally different. Our modern day prophets get themselves into trouble by interpreting their own prophetic words. This was never to be the case with today’s church.

Paul warned that when one is prophesying another is to interpret or other prophets are to judge their prophecies. Prophets do not like it when other prophets are critical of their prophetic words, but this is the only way for the church to monitor and evaluate the application and interpretations of any prophecy.

We will never get to the place of perfection and Christ’s return unless we begin to judge ourselves, “May judgment begin with the House of the Lord”. We are to “try the prophets” (or the spirit of the prophets) and see who is telling the truth and who is lying to the Body of Christ.

Let me give you a couple of examples: One, this happened many years ago in Texas. It was a seminar on prophecy, ‘How to prophesy with confidence’. During one of the sessions, a person (let’s call him Tom) prophesied but as soon as Tom finished a few of the ‘up-start prophets’ immediately prophesied that ‘what he had prophesied was not true’. Tom apologized and said that he was only trying to get ‘his gift’ learned. Then again, a prophet once again corrected Tom and said ‘that was not his reason but only that he is lying again’.

And two, also a few years ago’ a prophet had a vision/word, “That the waters of the San Joaquin Valley would rise and fall and the death of the SJ valley.” He has since died but always thought that he would see this in his lifetime, and furthermore thought an earthquake would be the cause of the waters rising and retreating into and out of the SJ Valley.

Not so fast, many prophecies are not about events but times. I believe that the falling and rising of the waters within California applies to ‘times’—a drought and then a deluge of water. Then and only then after these events take place, something would take place that would destroy the San Joaquin Valley. An earthquake, a bomb, or crop diseases are all possible. What I can be sure of is the timeframe in order for others to understand. We have been through the drought and now in the beginning of the ‘rise of waters’; what will soon follow is the destruction of the SJ Valley–consider the timeframe.

Californians and Americans living else where, be prepared and warned, what is coming will not only impact those who live in the valley but the food supply for all of America and for many nations overseas. Revelations will be fulfilled—a third of the earth will be killed through destruction of their food supply.

God is not mocked; His word will return to Him fulfilled and for His glory alone.

Angels & God’s Will

We often think that when things are going well we need little help. But to God, it is in doing His will, that He knows you need a lot more of His help!

It is in the middle of doing God’s perfect will is when you will need assistance from angels more than ever. Often we allow our thinking and therefore our reaction or response to God (this is your faith in action) to be set aside. God cannot come to your rescue or support when we fail to respond to Him (faith is your response to God—whatever that looks like). Without our faith connecting us to Him you will never, yes you will never, go deeper into God’s best for your life.

It is in ‘the doing’ of God’s will that we need His guidance and power in our lives. It is God’s angels that bring us to the next level of God’s action plans in our lives. Got angels, then you got power for the next step in your walk with Christ. No angels, no future with Jesus.

It was angels that moved Jacob to serve God and secure a blessing. It is angels that do the fighting for us in the middle of a battle (Elisha and his servant). It was angels that ministered to Christ before His crucifixion. It is angels that you will need at every turning point in doing God’s will in you life. They are there waiting for you—looking after you. It is there supernatural power that takes us, keeps us, and fights for us every step in our walk of faith with Christ.

Never close the door on angels working among us at any given time in performing God’s will—in easy times or hard times—we need angels all the time!

Here is a story that will help you in believing and therefore in responding (having faith) toward God. Let’s get our hearts and minds ‘turned-up’ to receive angels working among us.

A mother and her two young children were playing in a local park. Her daughter was chasing her son and he fell and hit his head against a metal object. He was knocked out and unconscious. Immediately a man in a pickup truck pulled up and asked if he could help. The man took the mother and her son to the local hospital—not far away. Her daughter after seeing her brother unconscious and bleeding ran off screaming for help.

After getting to the hospital the stranger said he would go back to the park, about 2 miles away, and find her daughter and bring her to the hospital. He did just that! Without any problem the daughter got into his truck, which was a miracle in itself, and arrived at the hospital calm and happy to see her mother.

The stranger would not give his name, address or any information about himself even though the mother wanted to reward him and asked for his address, which he wrote on a piece of paper. Some time later, after viewing the folded piece of paper, the mother was shocked to see that nothing was written on the paper. The boy recovered, the daughter was calmed and rescued, and the mother was introduced to angels looking over her and her family.

All of this is normal in a day with God. Angels sent to minister to His children. Be expecting and looking for angels all the time, in any circumstance, and the reason for all of this, it is only because God loves you!

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. Isaiah 54:17 KJV

I did not harm them, but they hid a net to catch me and dug a pit to trap me. Let destruction take them by surprise!Let the net they hid catch them! Let them fall into destruction!Psalms 35:7-8 NET

Paul quoted David, May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see. Romans 11:9-10 NIV

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV

The pulling down of strongholds, cleaning house, putting things in order is not enough or the final condition will be worse! When an evilspirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation. Matthew 12:43-45 NIV

The clean house must be filled and occupied; filled with the Holy Spirit and the Word of God! Revive us O Lord with your Word! Pray for revival in accordance with God’s word: Fight for me and defend me! Revive me with your word! Psalms 119.156 NET

Will you not revive us once more? Then your people will rejoice in you! Psalms 85.6 NET

O Lord God, invincible warrior, restore us! Smile on us! Then we will be delivered! Psalms 80.19 NET

Revival requires: Repentance and Seeking God First. This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation; in quietness and trust is your strength.” Isaiah 30.15 NIV

Remember this! Whoever does NOT receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will NEVER enter it. Luke 18.17 GNB

God’s children must seek him first, making him our top priority. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. Matthew 6.33 KJV

Do we “Buy in” to “God’s Process” and “work together”? If not the final condition will be worse. Politics Is Everything…Ya Right!

If you watch the news on TV or listen to talk radio you might think that politics controls everything. That ‘politics’ is the most important influence on everything you do and every decision you make. Oh, how we are fooled! Sometimes I think Christians are indeed the most ignorant of all ‘human groups’ on the earth.

Politics is politics and God’s will is God’s will. They of course intersect each other at times, but politics does not drive God’s will. It is God’s will that drives politics or the lack of its influence.

I have stated this many times, ‘a Christian should never define oneself as a democrat, republican or independent’. We are Children of God and fellow laborers of Jesus Christ—this is who we are.

Nevertheless, we do get involved in politics at ‘God given times’. There are times when Christians should and are involved in the political arena. Just as Ecclesiastes says, “There is a time for everything under heaven.”

I, for one, do not like politics; I agree with Mark Twain that ‘politicians are the most corrupt dishonest individuals on God’s earth’. They are individuals with sins and faults just like all of us. I do not elevate their personhood nor am I gullible to think that they can solve my problems. However, I will say that God does choose political leaders when His will is at stake for His purposes to be done in any given nation at any given time.

We have seen this during our history and specifically when Abraham Lincoln was elected President. Lincoln’s nomination divided the nation. He was hated by half the nation. He did not have experience, was educated, but did not come from political influential parents or an influential community. Lincoln wanted only two things: that a nation should not be divided and the freedom of slaves—slaves should be given the opportunity to make a living and live by the same standards of all Americans.

Most nations were against him as President and often his own party was opposed to what he was doing. The judicial courts were against what He stood for and opposed him at every decision of his Presidency. Does any of this sound familiar to current politics. Do not, I say again, do not judge a person by their political background but if God wants that person in power. It is God’s will that we should be concerned with, not politics.

Over the next eight years of Trump’s Presidency, God wants these things to be done. My question to all Christians and the Church is—“What do you want done…God’s will or your will?”

God wants these things to be done; you can be sure of this: a spiritual revival that sweeps across America and into every household; a revival of judgment and restoration of lives within the Gay Movement; the increase of our peace and the financial prosperity for all Christians; the peace and prosperity of Jerusalem and the nation of Israel; the construction of the Temple in Jerusalem; and for Christians to be out of debt and giving liberally to the poor and needy.

Come on Church; be on God’s side not on the side of politics…this is what Jesus would want you to do.
