Undistracted—Christ in me!
The last article I wrote for 2017 was called Distracted Resolutions. I hope you read it. If not check out my blog, wwjwmtd.com. Distraction happens far too often for the believing Christian. Jesus was not distracted nor does He want this behavior in your life.
Distraction adds unnecessary burdens to our lives. Paul references unnecessary distractions or hindrances in I Corinthians chapter 7. Synonyms for ‘distraction’ are: diversion, entertainment, beguilement, interference, annoyance, sidetrack, bewildered, confused, befuddled, discompose, confounded, troubled, and unsettled (Roget’s Super Thesaurus).
Wow, most of us operated under these terms many times each day during our walk with the Lord. However, Paul found a hiding place in the Lord, 2 Corinthians 4: 8 & 9. “We are troubled on every side but not distressed…not in despair…not destroyed…not forsaken.” Paul continues to say in verse 16: “For which cause we faint not, but though our outward man perishes, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”
Don’t you want to be undistracted? I believe being distracted is the single greatest challenge that faces the American Christian. The multitude of distractions in American is staggering. Satan has such a hold on American households it is extremely difficult to stay sensitive and focused on “What would Jesus want me to do?”
I offered some suggestions in the last article but let me be critically clear that faith cannot work in your life if you harbor distractions. Faith is your response to the will of God. If you do not know His will or become distracted so you do not respond to God, you do not walk in faith nor can you—you are distracted.
Want to be undistracted then finds ways to take Jesus with you when you shop, drive, work, coach, play, eat, sleep, talk, relax, or watch sunsets. First, get your mind around the concept that Jesus is not just inside you but also next to you—sitting there—waiting for you to operate in faith. To make faith decisions He has given you the opportunity to make.
Become undistracted—it’s Christ in me! Give Christ the opportunity ‘to want to sit next to you’ whatever you are doing. Jesus next to me, what a novel thought—undistracted.
